About the Clinic
Proper technique will be achieved by learning and repeating drills and proper stroke technique. We hope that the swimmers will take what they learn and bring it to their swim practices and competition meets. Our goal is not only to teach the swimmers how to do each drill, but also to help them understand how the drills will improve their stroke.
The Regis College Swim Clinic is not designed to be exhausting. We realize that hard work and intensive training is part of the swim team dynamic so the clinic focuses on making that training easier. This is done by learning different drills and techniqes for each stroke, which we hope will be repeated later during swim practice. We fully expect that each swimmer to go the full day of clinic and still have the energy to do an afternoon practice in any sport. Of course with the new drills and techniques the swimmers learn, the swim practices will hopefully become a little easier.
These skills will be taught by the critique of our coaching staff comprised of college coaches, athletic trainers and college swimmers. All the coaches make use of the underwater camera. The camera allows the coaches and the swimmers to see the stroke from a different perspective. More about underwater video...
The clinic features small group sizes, with each lane coach never having more than six swimmers at a time. Each swimmer will receive the special attention he deserves and a more thorough learning experience.
Although the swimmers are not swimming for the full day, they will continue to learn to improve from special lectures and discussions by the coaching staff.

Pool Temperature
At the Regis College Swim Clinic we intentionally keep the pool warmer that most pools, maintaining a temperature of between 80 and 81 degrees. While cooler water is ideal for competition and training (77-78 degrees), warmer water is more ideal for technique oriented swimming. When the focus is on technique instead of yards, the swimmers do not generate as much body heat as they would when swimming laps. The small difference in water can make a big difference in a child’s core temperature which can make a difference between a comfortable swimmer and a swimmer who shivers for most of the day. The warmer pool is ideal for children who tend to get cold while swimming.
Pickup/Drop-off Procedures
Because of the two options of daily schedules, there are two options for swimmer pick up. If you register your child for the regular session pick up is at 3:30. If you register your child for extended day, pick up is at 5:30. We kindly ask you to be on time or earlier for pickup.
If you intend to pick up your child early for camp, please call the Swim Clinic office either the day before or fill out an early pick up release form when you drop off your child. These will be supplied by the Swim Clinic every morning of camp. If you intend to bring your child in late please call the Swim Clinic office.
Absences – If your child intends to miss a day of camp or arrive late, please call the Swim Clinic office the day before.

Necessary Equipment
We ask that each swimmer bring the following materials to each day of the clinic:
1.) Bathing suit – we prefer if it is not an overly baggy suit because it causes more drag and makes the drills more difficult to learn.
2.) Towel – preferably two because the swimmers will be getting in and out on several occasions.
3.) Snack - (2 if staying for extended day)
4.) Lunch - please provide ice packs to keep perishables fresh.
5.) Sneakers – to be used for dry land activities and games.
6.) Shorts and T-Shirts - We will not be spending the full day on the pool deck, when we leave, we will ask that the children put on their shorts and T-shirts. Also it will be good to keep them warm on the cooler days.
7.) Sunscreen – on nice days the campers will eat and play games outside.
8.) Water bottle - Even though swimmers are surrounded by water, they still sweat and lose a lot of water. the water bottle is to help prevent hydration
We ask that when the children come on deck in the morning that they come changed in their bathing suit. Further we ask that they bring all of their possessions and leave them on the deck instead of the locker room.
